Black Shamrock is looking for a Senior Technical Artist to be part of their creative team working on ambitious AAA Playstation5, Xbox Series X and PC games. This is a full-time position based in our Dublin office which involves working in an international environment. They are seeking an enthusiastic and efficient person to be the bridge between our creative artists and our talented programming team.

What you will be doing

  • Enabling the Art team to create fantastic AAA visuals
  • Troubleshoot problems and find appropriate solutions
  • Constantly adapt and learn new technologies and processes to face production constraints
  • Implement technical art features and visual effects with the help of the programming team
  • Develop tools to assist the artists in their day to day tasks
  • Provide constant technical support for tools and the engine to all the team members
  • Implement and incorporate feedback from Art Director and other Leads into the project
  • Help establish best practices, production pipelines and workflows for the Art Department
  • Work with the Level Designers to enhance the gameplay experience
  • Optimise work and maintain balance between quality and performance
  • Provide mentorship, feedback, and training to others on the team
  • Draft documents on tools, methods, processes and engine constraints for future reference
  • Support the Lead Artist and Art Director in any ad hoc tasks and duties

What you should have

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in the gaming industry
  • Extensive knowledge of 2D & 3D computer graphics software, game engines and platforms
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of video game development processes and techniques
  • Strong understanding of rendering budgets and other technical issues related to performance in real-time engines
  • Experience collaborating with graphic programmers
  • Knowledge of at least one programming language such as Python
  • Great organizational and communication skills (English)
  • Mentoring skills to assist other TA’s in the studio
  • Superb problem solving skills, both creative and technical
  • Strong desire to keep up with the latest advancements in videogame graphics
  • Experience of UE4 game engine and production pipelines is desirable
  • Experience of VFX, Lighting or Shader development is a bonus
