The Digital Hub launch Radicle Lab to explore Dublin 8 community art and ecology

The Digital Hub is set to host a unique creative ecologies project focusing on environmental sustainability, curated by current Artist-in-Resident Seoidín O’Sullivan. The Radicle Lab will bring local communities, artists and researchers together to connect, celebrate and develop ecologically sustainable projects in the surrounding Dublin 8 area. This Creative Laboratory will launch this week and runs until Friday, June 10th at iD8 Studio at The Gatelodge on The Digital Hub campus, in Dublin’s Liberties.
The Radicle Lab will bring local communities, artists and academic researchers into a shared, open space where sustainable ideas can evolve and grow to create an impact on the Dublin 8 area. It is also hoped the Lab will drive conversations around the next phase of Dublin 8’s development. The Lab will host community ecology projects from the Dublin 8 area through a series of lunchtime excursions, including visits to the Bridgefoot Street Park and a walk and talk session along the Camac River and Turvey Park.
Additionally, daily workshops will be held including the It’s always about the Land, a discussion with Pallas Studios on high studio rents for artists, and the Social Justice Greening toolkit workshop, delivered by BCNUEJ (Barcelona Lab for Urban Environmental Justice and Sustainability). These will intertwine the topics of socio-ecologies, contemporary critical ecological art practices and the rights of nature.

Seoidín O’Sullivan, Artist-in-Resident at The Digital Hub said:

During her Artist-in-Residency programme, Seoidín has taken part in multiple research projects including a continuation of Mapping Green Dublin with Common Ground and UCD Geography, Urban Grit with the Robert Emmet Community Development Project and geographer Alma Clavin and the Emotional mapping of the Camac River alongside geographer Ronan Foley. The Radicle LAB project offers an insight into these research developments and provides a space for open discussions on future ecologically creative sustainable projects among the local community. About The Digital Hub
Based in the historic Liberties area of Dublin city centre, The Digital Hub is an enterprise cluster for growing technology companies. Forty-three established businesses operate in The Digital Hub. Together these businesses employ approx. 300 people. The Digital Hub is a supportive partner of the local community, by running several learning initiatives for people of all ages. Community learning programmes are run with local partners. For example, the Future Creators Cadets is delivered by H2 Learning and supported by National College of Art and Design (NCAD) and The Liber8 Music Project is run with BIMM Institute Dublin. The Digital Hub also works with community groups and organisations such as the Robert Emmet Community Development Project and Pocket Forests amongst others. The Digital Hub is one of four lead partners on the Smart D8 initiative which aims to improve and sustain the health and wellbeing of Dublin 8 citizens through innovation and collaboration.
The Digital Hub Development Agency is the Irish state agency that manages The Digital Hub. The Agency was established by the Irish Government under the Department of Communications, Climate Change and Environment.
In March 2021, the Government decided to dissolve the Digital Hub Development Agency and close The Digital Hub. The Agency will now embark upon an orderly winddown process which will see the transfer of lands to the Land Development Agency. All operations at The Digital Hub, including various community initiatives and partnerships, will continue as normal up until the closure date.
